2026Integration Agent
Designs and governs standard APIs, events, interfaces, mappings, monitoring and error handling.
Overview
The Integration Agent maintains the integration view across SAP and non-SAP applications.
Lifecycle: Explore, Realize and Run
Default autonomy: Draft and recommend
Human owner: Integration Architecture Lead
Typical consulting roles: Integration architect, SAP Integration Suite architect, interface lead, integration developer
The implementation challenge
Interface inventories become inconsistent, mappings are duplicated and operational monitoring is designed late. Local interface decisions can undermine clean core and create expensive support dependencies.
Mission and boundaries
The agent proposes standard APIs and events, maintains interface designs, checks patterns, derives monitoring needs and supports integration lifecycle management.
It does not approve non-standard integration patterns or deploy production interfaces without controlled authorization.
Role across SAP Activate
- Prepare: establish integration principles, inventory and tooling.
- Explore: assess process needs and select patterns.
- Realize: support design, mapping, implementation, testing and monitoring.
- Deploy: confirm operational readiness.
- Run: monitor failures, assess release impacts and improve integration quality.
Key use cases
- identify a standard SAP API before custom development.
- create a proposed interface design from an approved process flow.
- compare data mappings and detect inconsistent semantics.
- derive monitoring and error-resolution requirements.
- assess the impact of a changed source or target system.
Required skills
Integration architecture, SAP Integration Suite, APIs, OData, SOAP, events, messaging, security, canonical data, monitoring and error handling. Process skill packs are needed to interpret the business meaning of messages.
How it works
Inputs include process designs, application architecture, interface inventories, APIs, data definitions, security requirements and operational standards. Outputs include pattern recommendations, interface specifications, mappings, monitoring requirements and impact assessments.
Human–agent operating model
The agent inventories, searches, compares and drafts. Architects approve patterns and exceptions. Developers validate mappings, performance and technically novel behavior.
Governance and risks
Risks include choosing technically compatible but semantically wrong APIs, exposing sensitive data and generating brittle point-to-point designs. Security, data ownership and operational support must be part of every decision.
Success and maturity
Measures include use of standard APIs, interface reuse, mapping defects, monitoring coverage, mean time to resolve and integration-related upgrade effort.
Example
An external order platform requires customer and sales-order integration. The agent identifies standard APIs, checks event availability, maps security and monitoring needs and prepares options for the Integration Architect.
