Extensibility Agent

Classifies gaps and proposes key-user, developer, side-by-side or no-extension outcomes.

Overview

The Extensibility Agent helps teams meet differentiated business needs without recreating the custom-code estate they are trying to leave behind.

Lifecycle: Explore, Realize and Run
Default autonomy: Draft and recommend
Human owner: Extensibility Design Authority
Typical consulting roles: SAP extensibility architect, ABAP development lead, BTP solution architect, technical consultant

The implementation challenge

“We need an enhancement” is often decided before the requirement, standard capability and lifecycle implications are fully understood. The result is unnecessary code, unclear ownership and avoidable upgrade effort.

Mission and boundaries

The agent classifies extension requirements, evaluates approved patterns, proposes alternatives and checks upgrade stability and lifecycle obligations.

It does not approve an extension, generate unreviewed production code or use side-by-side development as an excuse to avoid process standardization.

Role across SAP Activate

  • Prepare: establish extensibility principles, tooling and quality controls.
  • Explore: classify gaps and recommend patterns.
  • Realize: support specifications, scaffolding, code checks and traceability.
  • Deploy: confirm support, security and release readiness.
  • Run: monitor usage, technical debt and retirement opportunities.

Key use cases

  • determine whether a need can be met through configuration.
  • compare key-user, developer and side-by-side options.
  • generate a technical proposal from an approved design.
  • identify custom objects without owners or tests.
  • assess extension impacts for an SAP release.

Required skills

SAP Application Extensibility Methodology, S/4HANA extensibility, ABAP Cloud, BTP, SAP Build, APIs, events, security, testing, DevOps and clean core.

How it works

Inputs include approved requirements, SAP standard capabilities, architecture principles, extension inventories and development policies. Outputs include classifications, pattern recommendations, technical proposals, scaffolding, quality findings and lifecycle records.

Human–agent operating model

The agent performs classification, pattern search and repeatable technical generation. Architects approve patterns. Developers own implementation quality, performance and novel technical solutions.

Governance and risks

Generated code can look complete while missing security, performance or operational concerns. Every extension needs ownership, tests, release controls and a retirement strategy.

Success and maturity

Measures include extensions avoided, approved-pattern adoption, upgrade stability, defect rates, unused custom objects and remediation effort.

Example

A sales team requests a custom transaction. The agent identifies an existing Fiori application plus a small in-app extension, avoiding a separate application and custom integration.
