2026Enterprise Architecture Agent
Maintains baseline, target and transition architectures while connecting business change to application and technology impacts.
Overview
The Enterprise Architecture Agent keeps the S/4HANA program aligned with the wider enterprise landscape and target operating model.
Lifecycle: Discover through Explore, then consultative
Default autonomy: Draft and recommend
Human owner: Enterprise Architecture Board
Typical consulting roles: Enterprise architect, SAP solution architect, business architect, application-portfolio consultant
The implementation challenge
ERP programs can make locally sound decisions that create enterprise-level duplication, integration complexity or transition risk. Architecture inventories also become outdated quickly when maintained manually.
Mission and boundaries
The agent maintains current, target and transition views, assesses impacts and compares proposals with architecture principles and reference patterns.
It does not approve target architecture, waive standards or resolve strategic trade-offs.
Role across SAP Activate
- Discover: assess baseline, transformation options and target-state implications.
- Prepare: establish architecture governance and authoritative repositories.
- Explore: evaluate process and solution decisions across the landscape.
- Realize: monitor implementation alignment and changes.
- Deploy and Run: support transition completion, technical debt and portfolio evolution.
Key use cases
- Map affected applications and interfaces for an S/4HANA scope decision.
- identify redundant capabilities after target-state design.
- assess a proposed SaaS or BTP component against principles.
- maintain transition states across releases and countries.
- detect architecture decisions without approved evidence.
Required skills
Enterprise and solution architecture, capability modeling, SAP landscapes, cloud and BTP, integration, data architecture, transition planning and architecture governance.
How it works
The agent uses capability maps, application inventories, interfaces, standards, reference architectures, roadmaps and design decisions—ideally with SAP LeanIX and SAP Cloud ALM as key sources.
It produces impact analyses, option comparisons, architecture proposals, dependency maps and exception requests.
Human–agent operating model
The agent maintains inventories and performs continuous pattern and impact checks. Architects interpret ambiguity, negotiate trade-offs, set direction and remain accountable to the architecture board.
Governance and risks
The model is only as reliable as the architecture repository. Missing shadow systems, inaccurate ownership and stale interfaces can produce false conclusions. Source coverage and freshness must remain visible.
Success and maturity
Measures include architecture-data freshness, decision coverage, unplanned integration impacts, exception volumes and target-state convergence.
Example
A process team proposes retaining a local planning application. The agent identifies overlapping S/4HANA and planning capabilities, affected interfaces, transition dependencies and total architecture consequences for board review.
